Summary Seminar: "Digital Video Broadcasting"
A seminar on Digital Video Broadcasting was held on June 14th and 15th. The
seminar was hosted by Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post. A diverse audience attended
the seminar, local participants, participants from Aruba, St. Maarten, Anguilla
and Suriname. We had very qualified speakers Mr. Eric Moerman, Ms. Myra Moore
and Mr. Peter Barnet. Some of the topics that were addressed are: Video coding,
Analog switch-off and the national roll-out of the DVB networks in the Netherlands
and Digital Terrestrial TV around the world.
Considering that the switch to DTT will is eminent, foreign participants were
asked about DTT developments in their jurisdiction and their view on the seminar
in particular. The participants from Aruba indicated that they are planned to
go over to digital TV in 2013 if not 2014, this is the same year they want to
have the analog shut off. They started work on the DTT implementation and are
now prohibiting new analogue TV broadcaster to transmit free to air. The digital
TV standard they planning to use will be probably DVB-T2 but the decision will
be definite after research and calculations that have to be done. The seminar
was certainly a good initiative from the Bureau Telecommunicatie & Post, the
information presented was very useful and the speakers are highly classified.
Anguilla was not in the position to elaborate on future DTT developments as
the subject is still being researched; in general they found the information
very useful and interesting. The information presented during the seminar will
be very useful in further discussions on the subject when back in Anguilla.
In general the participant from Anguilla thought the seminar was terrific and
the speaker well chosen for the topics.
